The information on this page is probably only of interest
to teams and other interested parties involved with the Australian V8
Supercar series.
The Pitstop Timer system has been custom designed for the V8 Supercars. The
system was designed so that no "track cutting" is required. Rather than placing
a transponder in the car with a receiver in the track (in the pit bay), a sensor
is placed on the boom which is used by the team during pit stops.
The time measured by the Pitstop timer is the amount of time that the car is "under the boom". For this reason a car having a slow entry or exit will in effect have a longer pitstop time. This more accurately reflects the nett result on the track.

Electronic driver identification is included as a part of the pitstop timer
system. The anodised aluminium enclosures have been colour coded (as well as
electronically encoded) to represent four different drivers.
The rear face of the driver ID units has been shaped to sit better on the range
of FIA approved HANS devices used in the Australian V8 Supercars.
